俄羅斯世界盃開踢以來，除日本之外，大部分亞洲球隊均顯示出與世界前段班間不小的實力差異；其中二連敗的南韓共計犯規47次，與墨西哥的對戰，更踢出本屆創單場紀錄新高的24次犯規，被陸媒直接封為「世界第一髒」。
南韓首戰瑞典就送出23次犯規，對上墨西哥又再創新猷，並領到4張黃牌，相較之下墨西哥則「節制」許多，僅有7次。
被外媒戲稱為踢跆拳道、非足球賽的南韓隊，因後防薄弱，無法阻擋對方攻勢，只能一再犯規，但太過肆無忌憚、淪於魯莽粗暴，已然引發眾怒。
